Neurodegenerative diseases include Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and Huntington’s disease. Testing shows that CBD can protect against the effects of iron accumulation in the brains of rats; so they assume that the potential use of CBD is a way to treat the symptoms associated with neurodegeneration in people. “The American Academy of Neurology published an evidence-based systematic review of randomized controlled trials using marijuana in neurologic disorders”. Several cannabinoids also showed effectiveness for spasticity, central pain, and painful spasms in multiple sclerosis. Many insurance companies provide insurance for prescription medications but that doesn’t mean they’ll cover for medical marijuana or CBD. Cannabinoid preparations currently available by prescription may have a role in other neurologic conditions, but quality scientific evidence is lacking at this time. As always, consult with a doctor.
